Purpose
The Legionnaire's exist as a covert, secretive neighborhood organization of household pets and local suburban wildlife (including, but not exclusive to, raccoons, possums, small rodents, and birds), aiming to rescue other animals (and humans) in trouble.
Origins
Three years after being seized by Animal Control, rehabilitated and adopted, General Hadrian learned that his long-lost mother and siblings had surfaced at the Old Market Street kennels. Determined to rescue them from the life he had left behind, Hadrian set out at night, intent on going it alone.
To his surprise, several of his neighborhood friends greeted him in the park behind their homes. Though utterly domesticated, each pet swore to help Hadrian as much as they were able. Unable to dissuade them, Hadrian accepted their aid and set out to Old Market Street.
After a bitter confrontation with his champion-fighter brother, Tyrant, Hadrian managed to strike a deal: He would never set foot in Old Market Street again (satisfying Tyrant's fear of being knocked from the top-spot by his superior brother) so long as their mother and suriviving siblings could return with him to Limestone Street.
Tyrant added one final condition: Hadrian, once touted as the best fighter in the history of the sport, had to agree to both fight and lose to him in complete view of the other kennel dogs.
Abandoning the last vestiges of his scrapper's pride, Hadrian agreed. After a brutal battle, the dog once called "The Wall" for his unshakable spirit, laid his neck bare for his own brother to tear into.
Afraid for their friend's life, the Limestone Street pets jumped into the pit and pulled Tyrant off of Hadrian, somehow managing to get everyone out of the kennel alive, including Hadrian's long-lost family.
Once back within the safety of their neighborhood, the dogs tended to Hadrian's wounds and acquainted themselves with the unnamed members of his family. Once he regained the ability to speak, Hadrian named kin and told them that in the morning, they would go to the Second Chance Shelter, get healthy, and find new homes.
Persephone, Hadrian's mother, Marcus, his second brother, and Livia, his sister, did as he instructed and eventually moved into homes within the neighborhood.
The Limestone Street Legionnaires
Hadrian was content to live out the rest of his life peacefully, but a nagging thought at the back of his mind kept bringing up images of other creatures left to the worst elements the world had to offer.
Surely there was something he could do.
The other pets in the neighborhood agreed and began formulating a plan to help those less fortunate than themselves.
In groups of three, they set out on alternating nights to see who or what they can find. They have agreed that there is no use forcing anyone into their way of living, but anything to keep them from Tyrant's kennel or death on the streets was at least worth trying for.
But the Legionnaires are not to be underestimated. Frequent clashes with Tyrant's gang means that each active member must be able to hold his or her own in a fight. Concentrating on their individual strengths, each Legionnaire specializes in one area (or several) and each 3-member group is as balanced as possible.
