Blue eyes glared up at the shimmering moon before returning to the garbage heap. The small dog had knocked over a trash can, hoping to find sustinance inside, but alas. All he found were the remains of a once plentiful feast. He licked up the crumbs greedily, hanging on to the faint taste of meat.
Suddenly, a large wet drop landed on his nose. He flattened his ears and crawled into the trash can. The rain came down harder, drumming on his shelter. He grumbled. "Perfect..."
He saw a racoon coming. The small dog got up and snarled at the intruder. "Fuck off, you flea bag!" The stupid animal didn't. It came right into the trash can. Jordan snarled and tackled the fat mustelid and they tumbled put into the rain.
Jordan bit every part of the animal he could reach, ignoring the wounds he sustained. "You bastard! This is my home!" Finally, the racoon ran off, turning around to snarl at Jordan.
This was but a glimpse of the papillon's pathetic existence. Day in and day out, the young dog fought for the bare minimum of necesities. He did it with a chip on his shoulder, scrapping with everyone who annoyed him. He didn't care how small he was. He was strong. He'd prove it.

It was about when the rain started that Kage knew she'd best hurry back to that box she used for shelter. Only now with how quickly it getting heavy she didn't think it'd hold. She'll once again have to find a different shelter. That didn't come easy around here. Well, at least she got some food for herself unlike yesterday. It was a piece of meat she found in the trash. It took her forever to find such a catch and it was probably best to eat it now rather then later. There could be thieves around but she wanted to be somewhere dry before eating. As the rain came down harder her small paws picked up the pace, trying to get to shelter quickly.
"Finally" she said, rushing into the box. Once inside she shook herself of the water then started to eat. She ate fast despite the fact that the meat looked a bit on the bad side from being in the trash too long. Finished she licked her mouth and laid down. The roof of her box home was quickly concaving inside until finally it could hold no more water. With a yelp the water it was restraining poured on her, drenching her completely. Kage rushed out and shook herself off before running away. She should've known better then to go to this home. A smart dog would've looked for another more sturdy one. I was too hungry to think again. Sighing she slowed to a walk and started to look for a better shelter.
Not too far ahead she heard some growling, yelling, and some creature crying out in pain. Ears perked to the pained sounds. Was it possible that it was a puppy? No. It didn't sound like any canine noise she's ever heard before. Still, she needed to check it out in case it was a different animal that needed her help. Keeping her ears perked to the sounds she rushed over only to find a racoon running past her. Now what would cause it to run away like that? She turned her head to look at the dog that scared off the raccoon. It was rare for her to see a dog smaller then her. The dog was only a couple inches shorter however, no more. "Are you ok?" she asked, seeing he had some wounds.
